Trusting Your Photographer

Let me tell you my three FAVORITE words to hear from clients. “We trust you.” I would bet… that all photographers out there are in agreement with me when I say, when we hear those words, it allows us to be the most creative and inspired versions of ourselves.

Last night, I had a consult call with a bride whose wedding I’m shooting next month. I’ve known Kayla and Jared for a couple of years now, and I have always felt like Kayla is one of those people that just makes me feel so encouraged in this space. When we were on the phone, I was asking her a few questions about the wedding day, and she said she trusted me. When she and other clients in the past have said this before, I have immediately felt like I had permission to take creative control.  Which is HUGE!! Instead of feeling this pressure of how the day is supposed to go from a photography perspective, I now feel no pressure at all because I know that I’m able to see the day from my own lens (literally and figuratively).

Photographing a wedding is an interesting experience. As an extreme people pleaser, it can be difficult for me to balance alllllll of the opinions that get shot at you. Sometimes, I’m actually very grateful that someone called my attention to a specific moment that I maybe didn’t see at first. Other times… it’s not as helpful ;) Regardless, my main purpose with shooting anything is to make my clients happy by giving them photographs that evoke emotion and bring them back to feelings they had on that day. To make my clients the MOST satisfied with their photos, it’s important that they trust me and my vision for our time together.

So, my pro-tip for you today is:

Choose a photographer whose vision and style aligns with what you want. If you choose a photographer based on this, not only will you be happy with the photos, but the photographer will also be thriving :)
